Respond to the Rights of Way Improvement Plan Consultation and request a safe non-road route from Loders to Bradpole

Loders Transport Group (LTG) is encouraging YOU to urge Dorset Council to extend the existing safe route between West Bay and Happy Island further east and create a non-road route from Bradpole to the village of Loders, by responding to its Rights of Way Improvement Plan consultation. The consultation closes on Sunday 12 October — please respond before then.

The danger

The existing road between Loders and Bradpole is steep, narrow, with blind bends and a 60mph speed limit. It is dangerous for walkers, cyclists, wheelchair and mobility scooter users, and those with pushchairs.

The solution

Just 1km of the former railway is a unique opportunity for a direct, level, traffic-free, heritage route. It would encourage active travel, improve physical and mental well-being, reduce pollution, and better connect town and country — including for those without a car.

A lot of people have asked us for an update about plans for a trailway connecting Bridport and Maiden Newton. The West Dorset Trailway, following the route of the former railway line between Maiden Newton and Bridport is included in the draft ROWIP, but Loders Transport Group's campaign is focused specifically on creating a safe non road route between Loders and Bradpole. If you'd also like to express support for other local Rights of Way projects, including a trailway between Maiden Newton and Bridport, the Chideock to Bridport path, or a traffic free route between Burton Bradstock and Bridport, there is space to include this in Section 6 of the consultation, but Loders to Bradpole remains our focus.

Our guidance covers all seven sections of the consultation. Where it asks for additional comments, responses are limited to 250 characters.
